My Wind Power Cost Under $150 Per Wind Turbine!

by Admin

Amazing, I know.  I didn’t believe it at first either.  How could wind power cost less than $150 per turbine?  That just wasn’t possible.  Well, it is, and you don’t even need any special skills or knowledge to do it!

Jims Wind Turbine Test Tower

But that’s getting ahead of myself.  My friend Jim at the green energy company had invited me over to see his new wind turbines.  He had found some plans and built them himself.  When I got there, we went out to see the test installation he has.  Here’s a picture of it!

I have to say, it looked sorta flimsy.  But when he told me that it was only used to test the turbines he builds to measure how much power they were able to generate everything was pretty clear.  It was intended to be easy to take down!

We talked a bit about the building process and he told me that most of the materials he needed for his first diy wind turbine were lying around in his garage, though a few things he had to run to the hardware store to pick up.

Now you’re not going to power your whole home off of a single turbine, DIY or commercial, but they’re not designed to do that.  They’re designed to be installed like solar panels and be connected to storage batteries.

This is no different from other green power methods.  The wind isn’t constant so you can’t just plug into the generator and get endless power.

Jim had built several residential wind turbines at this point, and his entire wind power cost was less than $500.  He was supplying almost all of his residential power needs via wind energy.  Works for me, I thought!  Great power sources at a fraction of commercially manufactured wind turbine prices.

I was inspired, to say the least.  I decided to build some too!  I went home and bought the plans online.  They weren’t all that expensive and came with detailed step by step directions, instructional videos, and great pictures.

There were a number of free bonuses that came with the plans including instructions on building DIY solar panels.  I definitely had to try those out too!

Well, this looked pretty darn easy.  I gathered up everything I needed to create my very own wind turbine.  Within a few days I had my new residential wind generator ready to go.  I tested it out and determined that I was getting 250W of power, or about twice what you would get from an off the shelf solar panel.

Long story short, I’ve made a couple more and am very happy with the combined power output of our green energy plant.  I even used the solar panel plans that were included as a bonus and they worked great!  Here’s a great picture of our country farm home with amazingly low wind power cost.
